About

I maintain about five or six blogs. Most about music or recording or my bands.

This one is about a hobby I have up about 15 years ago. Currently, I’m thinking of getting back into it.

Gaming History

I first played the D&D basic set in 7th grade, somewhere around 1978. Concidentally, this is just after the summer when I first read The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, so I was instantly hooked.

I suddenly found myself reading all the time and learning to do number crunching in my head. It was an outlet for creativity like no other.

In college I discovered GURPS, and ran a Fantasy campaign for the better part of a decade. I even started creating some content other people might use. I’m credited, along with several players from my campaign, in the old GURPS Grimoire book. We invented a few spells and submitted them to Steve Jackson Games, and to our surprise, they were included with credit.

I wrote a controversial article for the old Roleplayer newsletter, too.

I also had a web page, called Happy Jack’s GURPS Resources. Why Happy Jack? It’s from a song I wrote. Tried to get happyjack.com — taken. happyjack.net — taken. Settled with happyjack.org. It’s since lapsed. But if you dig through archive.org, you can find some of the stuff I wrote (along with others). There was a couple NPCs, expanded critial hit charts, expanded rules for orcs, alternative magic systems, etc.

The whole RPG hobby quickly took a back seat when my band sort of took off (www.poxyboggards.com), and I discovered how to trick women into spending time with me.

So now I’m slowly easing my way back into the hobby. I went with D&D this time, 4th edition. It’s new — and it’s ubiquitous, so I should have no trouble finding players.

Once I’m familiar with the game mechanics, and I have the outline for the campaign finished, I’ll find some players.

As I create stuff, I’ll post it here.
